Background and Region

Players start the campaign in the small mining town of Diamond Lake. It's a town past its prime, but the mines in and around the town still provide a steady trickle of gold and silver to the nearby city of Baldur's Gate, who maintain a small garrison there.

The lake itself has long been tainted by run-off, and the once-rich Cairn Hills attracted many adventurers as well until they were considered fully explored. Mesmer has discovered an ancient, seemingly unplundered cairn in the hills beyond his woods, and has recruited friends of his to explore it before arrogant adventurers from Baldur's Gate do so first.
